Finneas Bairdo'Connell was born 1997 in Los Angeles, California. His parents were Maggie Baird (screenwriter), and Patrick O'Connell, actor. He began writing and recording his own music as a child actor at the age of 12. He made his film debut in Bad Teacher (2011) with Cameron Diaz. In 2013, he was featured on the soundtrack to Life Inside Out, a music-themed drama in which he also starred alongside his mother. He was a regular character Alistair on the sixth season of Modern Family, Aquarius, as well as his appearances on those shows. His first single, "Desperate Measures," was released in 2016 by his guitar-pop group, The Slightlys. Eilish's breakthrough came later in 2016 with "Ocean Eyes", Finneas-produced song that he wrote for his band. It reached number 84 in the U.S. after gaining millions of streams.
