Relatives embody the frequent duckweed, skunk cabbage, calla lily and Jack-in-the-pulpit. During the primary stage, carrion beetles drawn by the stench of dying and human-like physique temperatures, creep inside the vase-like construction and unknowingly deposit pollen on the receptive feminine flowers. During the second stage, the construction begins to collapse, the "fragrance" fades and the bugs begin to move out. As they depart, the beetles rub up towards the pollen within the male flowers and at the second are prepared to hold the pollen to a nearby feminine flower. Only a handful of these strange Indonesian plants bloom every year at public gardens worldwide. SDBG is the only recognized backyard within the region that grows this exotic species.
