The idea of the first friendly and intrusive, then dangerous and psychopathic neighbor is anything but new. One of our favorites: Samuel L. Jackson as the racist cop on Neil LaBute's Lakeview Terrace. But that this at first glance simple concept, which is now also behind the direct-to-home theater release "Welcome Home", can still work, is shown by director George Ratliff ("If you believe it, you will be blessed - Salvation Boulevard" ) now at least in the first few minutes of his psychological thriller, in which mood and situation and thus also tension are skillfully built up. But the suspense story, with "Breaking Bad" star Aaron Paul and supermodel Emily Ratajkowski in the leading roles, keeps this promise far too seldom and instead flattens out in the first half.
