Just to confirm, does this mean the threshold cap increases after hitting 62 million points? And how does that impact prize distribution?

Cap increases, yes. If you are close to the next threshold, that should still limit your honor bonus for that week.

In my personal experience, anyone who can beat 500 honor squads and use just most of their free arena energy and play the whole season, will reach the top threshold with a couple of weeks to spare.
